What inspired Paws for Harmony?

"The first time I saw how music bridged gaps in communication was at a Concerto Competition in Hilton Head, where finalists had the privilege to perform for local senior residents. Through post-performance interactions with the audience, I saw firsthand how music could bring comfort and create moments of connection for those who needed it most. Wanting to expand that impact, I co-founded Paws for Harmony, bringing together student musicians and certified therapy dogs to promote mental well-being."

What is your favorite outreach moment?

"My favorite moment was our very first club meeting. After months of planning, it was incredibly rewarding to see students come together because they shared the same passions and interests."

What inspired Paws for Harmony?

"I was inspired to help co-found Paws for Harmony because I wanted to create a space for students to relax and take a break from the stresses of school life. We wanted to be able to make dog therapy and music therapy more accessible to everyone and I'm going to continue working towards that goal everyday."

What is your favorite outreach moment?

"My favorite outreach moment was our partnership with Brightside Cafe where we had the opportunity to perform music for the community."

What inspired your journey with Paws for Harmony?

"I was able to see the instant calm that a therapy dog brings to a distressed student. As a cellist myself, music was the natural second half of that bridge."

What do you hope to accomplish with Paws for Harmony this year?

"I want to continue to grow Paws for Harmony and spread awareness to more people about the benefits of music and dog therapy. I hope to be able to set up more opportunities for people to mitigate anxious and overwhelming feelings. "

What is your favorite outreach moment?

"My favorite outreach activity with Paws for Harmony has been attending the Brightside Games. This event brings children together for a day of fun and competition, and it was so rewarding to see our club play a part in creating those unforgettable moments. Connecting with the kids and their families made it a truly memorable experience."

Why did you join Paws for Harmony?

"I joined Paws for Harmony because it combined two of my favorite things-music and dogs.  I am a violin player, and I really love listening to classical music, especially violin concertos.  I believe that listening to music is a wonderful way to unwind and improve your mood.  I've also loved dogs since a very young age, but unfortunately I don't have one.  I do plan on getting one in the future, even though I'm supposed to be allergic.  I think It's really awesome how Paws for Harmony has so many adorable therapy dogs at each meeting!

Another reason I joined Paws for Harmony is because I thought it was a great way to de-stress and hang out with friends.  High school can be very stressful sometimes, and I love how Paws for Harmony hosts fun events to help unwind and relax. Additionally, Paws for Harmony is open to everyone, and it provides a very welcoming and fun environment for students to hang out and connect with one another."

Why did you join Paws for Harmony?

"I joined Paws for Harmony because I wanted to combine my interest in playing the guitar with helping others. I think it’s interesting how music can affect people’s emotions and help them feel more comfortable. I’ve also always loved dogs, so I thought it was really cool that Paws for Harmony combines music with dog therapy to create a positive and relaxing environment.

Another reason I joined Paws for Harmony was because I wanted to be part of a community where I could meet new people and help others. I decided to run for an officer position because I wanted to become more involved and help organize activities that grow the club."
